Restaurant website with WhatsApp ordering: live demo

Dar Sumac is a Lebanese kitchen in Beirut that takes its orders on WhatsApp, the way most restaurants here already do. This demo is its whole website, built from the code a buyer receives: the menu by section, a page for every dish, the order, and a checkout for delivery or pickup. Instead of a payment form, the order becomes one tidy message.

Dar Sumac is invented: a restaurant made up to show the template. Its dishes, prices and photographs are samples, and no order you write is sent anywhere. What you add stays in your browser and is gone when you reload the page.

Things to try

The Restaurant ordering on a desktop screen, in light mode
  • Add a few mezze from the menu, then open a grill: it asks you to pick a side before it goes into the order.
  • Switch between delivery and pickup. The delivery fee follows the area you choose, and the minimum order and free delivery apply as you go.
  • Check out with a mistake or two, such as a phone number with a digit missing: each one is named above the form and beside its field.
  • Send the order and read the WhatsApp message it becomes, written in the language you ordered in. Then switch to Arabic: the whole site turns right to left.
  • Come back after closing time, Beirut time: “as soon as possible” is gone, and the checkout offers the times of the next opening instead.

When it is yours

In your copy the restaurant is three plain files: its details, its menu and its words, opening hours and delivery areas included. The send button opens WhatsApp on your own number. Customers need no account and no app; you get orders you can read at a glance, in a chat you already answer.
